As you have gathered, I take photographs of nature, urban and rural life, flowers, clouds and such, and sell my pieces as cards and wall art. Or, on occasion, sell a nonexclusive license to use one or more of my photographs.
There are many marvelous photographers living in other circumstances, in other parts of the world, using photographic
equipment other than a camera with “point and click” as an option. I don’t photograph home interiors or landscapes, weddings, christenings, graduations or funerals, and my culinary photos are limited to foods I prepare in my own kitchen. I come across some amazing photography on the Internet, and sometimes I get to know the photographer/photo artist, also. When that happens, it’s special to me.
There is undoubtedly a better way to do this, especially if my list gets really long. For now, though, I am just going to start out with a list of names and URLs. Maybe a few words about some, about where I met them online or why their work struck my fancy. About some others, maybe not so much; some, I may not know, or I may feel that my words are irrelevant to or could interfere with another’s enjoyment or understanding of the artist’s work. I expect that I will not spend much time, if at all, on the photographers’ credentials.
Anthony Jalandoni
I start out with Anthony Jalandoni’s page on Blurb: http://www.blurb.com/user/jalandoni because I own and was asked to write a blurb for his book of street photography, New York City: Street Scenes. Several others are listed for sale. He and I met on the JPGMag site (user name: AJA), where he was helpful in bringing to my attention ways in which I could improve my work. I should mention here that I have ordered, as my second significant wall art acquisition (the first being a landscape by B. Charoy, which I bought in the late 70s), his picture “a breath of fresh air” for sale at RedBubble.com. (Only a photographic print of it for now, but I’m aiming for a matted or a framed print as circumstances permit.)
Cynthia Walker Photography (cynthiawalkerphotography.com)
Cynthia Walker specializes in Real Estate Photography (Huntsville & Birmingham, Ala.), and I have fallen in love with her Portfolio. Lovely photographs of lovely houses! I could look at them and dream in them for hours.
Nita Grace’s N-Grace Photography
You must take a look at her personal portrait photos for Derrick (filed in the Client LookBook). A gorgeous range of poses and expressions! If Derrick’s gallery is no longer available, check out the Portraits Gallery first.
Ann Arbor Miller: Visual Story Teller Ann Arbor Miller
Ann says, “Photographs tell stories. They preserve moments and memories. It is a powerful gift to tell someone’s story.” At her site, she says that her specialties are editorial, education, and commercial photography and writing assignments. The journal (blog) section is the first page you come to, and that’s fascinating. But don’t leave without looking through at least a few of her many portfolios. I would recommend it for an afternoon when you can’t get out and about for your weekly Artist Date. Lots of good stuff, here. Her contact information is available on the site, and she invites comments.
