Bees, Butterflies and Dragonflies

Even in our small yard during a summer when only perennials bloomed, there were butterflies and dragonflies, honeybees and bumblebees, to photograph. If I stand patiently near the thistle plants or hollyhocks, eventually bees do show up. In recent years, bumblebees have outnumbered honeybees by a large margin.

Dragonflies and butterflies are not so likely to sit still long enough to have their pictures taken. I had my best luck with those on windy days, using the sports setting, when they’ve been clinging to flowers or branches to keep from being blown away. They seem to catch the wind more than bees do.
